Sendhil Revuluri: Chicago Families Deserve A Board President Who Sets Direction Before a Crisis

CHICAGO, May 29, 2026 Following another lengthy and contentious Chicago Board of Education meeting, Sendhil Revuluri, candidate for President of the Chicago Board of Education and former vice president of the board, issued the following statement:

"Last night's meeting stretched well over six hours, and ended with members unsure of what they were even voting on. When families and educators are seeking a clear path forward, they got chaos instead. They're the ones who pay the price for governance like that.

Reading the titles of consent agenda items aloud does not make a board transparent. Passing a resolution about the state budget three days before session ends is not a legislative plan. Blowing ideological hot air about charter schools days before a renewal deadline isn't serving students. These are performative gestures, and they don't improve a single student's learning or success.

Chicago’s students and families deserve focus and advance planning that supports their success. And all Chicagoans deserve a board president and board with the courage to set direction before a crisis—someone who puts students ahead of ideology and measures every decision by whether our kids are better off.”

Revuluri continues to call on the board to adopt a more disciplined approach: planning ahead with clear goals for long-term student success, fiscal sustainability, and capital investment; listening to the whole community about what success for Chicago's children should look like; and setting clear expectations for CPS leadership through policy, CEO evaluation, budget decisions, and every major board vote.
